The Sr. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a scientific expert and strategic partner within the Medical Affairs team. In a small Biotech company environment, this role requires high scientific credibility, strong autonomy, and the ability to operate across both strategic and executional levels. The Senior MSL is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key external experts, supporting clinical development and launch activities, and providing actionable medical insights to inform company strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in multiple myeloma, products, and pipeline assets
- Maintain deep knowledge of disease states, mechanism of action, clinical trial data, and evolving treatment landscapes
- Translate complex scientific information into balanced, understandable insights for internal and external stakeholders
- Identify, develop, and manage long-term relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, and academic experts
- Conduct high-quality, non-promotional scientific exchange in compliance with regulations
- Act as the primary medical point of contact for external scientific stakeholders within assigned territory
- Contribute to the development and execution of medical affairs strategy, particularly in pre-commercial and early-launch settings
- Provide senior-level input into launch planning, indication expansion, and evidence-generation strategy
- Serve as a trusted medical advisor to cross-functional partners, including Commercial, Market Access, and Clinical Development
- Support clinical trial activities including site feasibility, investigator engagement, and protocol feedback
- Facilitate investigator-initiated research (IIR/IIS), including scientific review and execution support
- Act as a bridge between field insights and clinical/R&D teams
- Ensure all scientific exchange and activities are compliant with regulatory, legal, and company SOP requirements
- Model ethical behavior and scientific integrity
- Mentor junior MSLs or new team members as applicable
- Contribute to Medical Affairs infrastructure, including SOPs, training, metrics, and best practices
- Support special projects typical of small-biotech, high-visibility roles
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, sharing knowledge and supporting team goals.
- Contribute to problem-solving and decision-making processes with an objective, data-driven approach.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders to ensure alignment.
- Demonstrate ownership of tasks and follow through to successful completion.
- Support team members through constructive feedback, mentorship, and collaboration.
Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree required (DNP, PhD, PharmD, MD)
- 3+ year’s experience in a therapeutic field medical role
- Experience in small or emerging pharmaceutical/biotech companies preferred
- Therapeutic area experience aligned with company portfolio strongly preferred
- Launch experience preferred
- Experience with HEOR, MRC, Patient Advocacy and Clinical Trial Support
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use facts and data to guide decisions
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strategic thinker comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
- High level of independence, initiative, and accountability
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and influencing skills
