Overview: Typewriter TX Japan GK is a biotech startup originating from the University of Tokyo, developing next-generation gene editing technology known as Gene Writing, which enables precise insertion of therapeutic genes into the genome. Based on cutting-edge transposon-based technologies, we aim to deliver innovative gene therapies for severe genetic disorders that currently lack effective treatments. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Technician / Research Associate to join our team and contribute to the advancement of Gene Writing technologies. This position reports directly to our pharmacology scientist and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in molecular and cellular biology, be capable of independently conducting experiments based on established protocols, and consistently generate high-quality, reproducible data. This role offers significant growth potential in a fast-paced startup environment and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the development of novel genome engineering technologies and next-generation gene therapies. Responsibilities- Conduct in vitro experiments such as IVT, PCR, cell culture, FACS, ELISA, and bioactivity assays under the guidance of pharmacology scientists, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data generation- Generate critical data to evaluate gene editing efficiency and mechanisms of action in vitro- Perform detailed observations and produce high-quality, reproducible experimental results- Maintain accurate and timely records in lab notebooks and manage electronic data in accordance with company policies- Support lab operations including reagent procurement, vendor communication, inventory management, and sample organization- Thrive in a fast-paced research environment and contribute as a proactive and collaborative team player Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years or Master’s degree with 3+ years of research experience in industry or academia, or a recent Ph.D. graduate in biological sciences or a related life science field- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, PCR, in vitro transcription)- Proficiency in cell biology techniques (e.g., cell culture, transfection, transduction, flow cytometry)- Ability to follow protocols precisely and generate high-quality data- Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team- Flexibility and adaptability to handle multiple experimental protocols- Ability to maintain accurate and understandable experimental records in accordance with company policies- Capability to manage lab equipment, supplies, and samples under the direction of senior scientists- Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment- Quick learner, team-oriented, and effective communicator- Demonstrates strong organizational behavior Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)- Experience with gene editing or gene therapy technologies (e.g., CRISPR, PRIME editing)- Experience culturing various primary cells, especially hepatocytes- Experience with cell-based functional assays (e.g., transfection, cytotoxicity, cytokine release, proliferation assays)- Familiarity with cellular, biochemical, and molecular techniques (e.g., genome profiling [RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, dPCR, NGS], protein detection [ELISA, MSD, Western blot], cell imaging, and flow cytometry analysis)- Experience in RNA synthesis and purification- English communication skills are a plus- Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills Employment Conditions- Employment Type: Permanent- Salary: ¥5,000,000–¥8,000,000 annually (with performance-based raises)- Bonus: None- Commuting Allowance: Fully covered within company policy- Relocation Support: Partial support available (negotiable)- Work Location: Kashiwa-no-ha office (with potential relocation within the Kanto area in the future)- Contract Term: No fixed term; retirement at age 60, with possible re-employment up to age 65- Probation Period: 3 months (no change in conditions)- Job Scope: No significant changes expected- Working Hours: Discretionary labor system; deemed 8 hours/day, typically 9:00–18:00- Break Time: 60 minutes- Holidays: Weekends and national holidays; special paid leave during summer and New Year holidays; 10 days of paid leave granted after 6 months; substitute leave available- Overtime: None (discretionary labor allowance for 20 hours/month included in salary)- Social Insurance: Health insurance, pension, employment insurance, workers’ compensation- Smoking Policy: No smoking on the premises Contact address: Typewriter TX Japan GK, 5-4-6-613, Kashiwanoha, Kashiwa, Chiba 277-0882, Japan; E-mail: recruitjp@typewritertx.com
