Summary: Typewriter Therapeutics, Inc. of Japan (Typewriter TX Japan GK) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and resourceful scientist with extensive experience in pharmacology for drug discovery. The successful candidate will lead/oversee the execution of internal program(s), pushing the boundaries of our proprietary gene delivery technology within the realm of diseases. This role presents a unique opportunity to explore multifaceted applications of gene writing for diseases, paving the way for novel therapeutic programs and potential partnerships. The role oversees program-related activities from target identification, validation, drug candidate nomination to regulatory filings. Reporting to the Sr. Princ Sci/Head of R&D Japan, this position offers vast learning opportunities in permanent gene insertion. Position Responsibilities- Contribute to the internal therapeutic strategy- Lead execution of internal programs and develop the path to candidate (Go/No-Go) from target identification, validation (on/off target), in vitro and in vivo proof-of-principle for program-related gene delivery molecules- Manage the work of others directly and in a matrixed structure- Collaborate with global stakeholders (molecular biology, cell biology, nonclinical, bioanalytical, CMC, formulation teams)- Critically analyze data to inform program strategy, decisions, and subsequent stages of drug development- Oversee communication of study results to project teams and stakeholders in English and Japanese- Support BD opportunity evaluation and patent filing; act as a scientific mentor and role model Qualifications- PhD in Molecular/Cell Biology or related degree with 8+ years relevant experience, or BS/MS with 15+ years relevant experience- Experience in drug discovery research with demonstrated proficiency in diseases- Expertise in at least one therapeutic modality (gene editing or gene therapy); familiarity with other modalities a plus- Expertise in designing/overseeing in vitro/in vivo pharmacology studies for candidate evaluation (IND filing experience a plus)- Expertise in designing/validating cell-based biochemical and enzymatic assays- Knowledge of animal models of disease (e.g., rare monogenic diseases)- Experience managing direct reports and setting team priorities; thrives in a fast-moving startup; self-motivated; flexible, cooperative Working Conditions- Type: Permanent employment; Salary: ¥10,000,000–¥13,000,000 per year; Bonus: None- Location: Initial location Kashiwa-no-ha Office; possible relocation within Kanto in the future- Probation: 3 months; Hours: Discretionary labor system (deemed 8h; typically 9:00–18:00)- Holidays: Weekends/national holidays; special paid leave during Obon/New Year; paid leave 10 days after 6 months- Overtime: None (20h/month allowance included); Social insurance provided; Smoking prohibited Contact: Typewriter TX Japan GK, 5-4-6-613, Kashiwanoha, Kashiwa, Chiba, 277-0882, Japan; recruitjp@typewritertx.com
