Research & development at Vaxess is cross-disciplinary, integrating biology, chemistry, immunology, materials
science, and engineering to address important unmet medical needs in vaccines and therapeutics. We are seeking
a talented, collaborative, and highly motivated individual with expertise in animal model development to lead
animal model development and join our core team of scientists and engineers. This is a unique opportunity to be
part of an emerging early phase clinical company bringing innovative technology to the global market.
Responsibilities
● Develop animal models to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intradermal vaccine administration
● Support IND-enabling safety and efficacy studies
● Engage with internal teams in research and early development and define the questions critical to
continue platform advancement
● Lead experimental design from concept to execution; analyze data, communicate results, and present
work in team meetings
● Manage outsourced animal studies, lead the engagement with external CROs, organize personnel support
and other key resources to ensure successful study outcomes
● Refine procedures to ensure consistent and high quality administration procedures and ensure
standardization of tissue harvesting procedures
● Develop or maintain organizational tools to track study schedules, animal inventories and study endpoints
● Ensure compliance with IACUC and facilitate training and credentialing for new staff members
Qualifications
● PhD or B.S./M.S. in pharmacology, biology, or related field of study with a minimum of 3 to 6 years,
respectively, in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
● Hands-on experience with a variety of rodent models, including mice and rats, and experience managing
or executing large animal experiments in swine or non human primates
● Proficiency interpreting clinical signs and basic animal health screening data
● Experience training junior staff on various administration and blood sampling techniques
● Familiarity with IACUC review and approval processes
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects in parallel
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Committed to working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary cross-functional team
