About the Role:
RASyn is seeking an innovative, self-motivated, and team-oriented Principal Scientist in Protein Engineering, with a passion for working on advanced technology development projects at the intersection of protein science, synthetic biology, and microfluidics. In your role, you will help build and optimize protein expression and characterization capabilities, as well as contribute to the development of novel assays for high-throughput screening of a wide variety of proteins. You will support our cross-functional teams with your knowledge of protein sciences and be a key contributor supporting our R&D programs. As a member of a rapidly growing and very engaged team, you will have the opportunity to participate in leading cutting-edge research and development, and work with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Help build and manage in-house capabilities of protein expression and characterization to support research activities, project goals and platform development
- Design and carry out experiments to express various proteins, and implement high-throughput screening and production workflows
- Characterize proteins with various biochemical and biophysical techniques
- Use automation to support high-throughput activities
- Analyze and communicate experimental results verbally and in writing
- Mentor junior team members when needed
Qualifications & Skills:
- PhD in biological engineering, biochemistry, synthetic biology, or a related field and 6+ years relevant experience, pharmaceutical or biotech preferred
- Experience with the design and development of high-throughput assays and directed evolution strategies for characterizing and improving protein function
- Experience with enzyme activity assays and biochemical / biophysical characterization of proteins
- Experience with cell free protein synthesis, bioconjugation techniques, laboratory automation and/or computational protein design is beneficial
- In depth knowledge of molecular biology and gene assembly techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strategic thinker, able to shift seamlessly between rigorous scientific details and high-level context and implications
