Job Description

RA Capital Management (RACM) is a multi-stage investment manager dedicated to evidence-based investing in public and private healthcare and life science companies, and private planetary health companies.

RAVentures (RAVen), the in-house incubator of RACM, is the venture- and company creation-focused division which houses a collaborative environment for exploring new opportunities.  While this role is focused to healthcare services and related areas, much of the team consists of drug hunters and company builders who are focused on discoveries and advancements in chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, genome engineering, synthetic biology, and other technologies and therapeutic programs to create novel companies that may address unsolved challenges for patients. RAVen also provides expert operational support tailored to the specific needs of new and early-stage biotech and healthcare services companies.
RAVen is looking to add a Senior Healthcare Associate to our team.  In this newly created role, you will leverage your background and understanding of the healthcare landscape, including emerging approaches to care delivery, regulatory implications, new payment models, value-based care, health care technologies and platforms, competitive landscapes and emerging trends to support our team of industry experts to ideate and launch new healthcare companies.    The right candidate will be a self-starter with a consulting mindset, exceptional healthcare domain knowledge and strong analytical skills.


  • Work alongside Venture Partners, Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIRs), our Tech Atlas research team and other RA colleagues to develop proformas based upon potential business models     .
  • Evaluate potential opportunities and the commercial/market potential thereof for healthcare services companies; including payer strategy and prioritization for new companies
  • Work closely with Venture Partners and team to synthesize a newco idea into a story, prepare pitch deck and present to potential investors and / or strategic business partners  
  • Assess competitive landscape and impact on a newco’s strategy and differentiation
  • Develop initial business plans, operating plans, budgets, scenarios, and key value inflection points for new companies, working in partnership with Venture Partners, EIRs, and RAVen’s finance team
  • Collaborate with investment team members and Venture Partners to develop and execute financing and capitalization structures and valuations necessary to achieve funding and launching of a company   
  • Once new companies have launched, take on critical role building company, contributing to strategy, operations, business development, corporate strategy, business operations, and/or project management 
  • Keep up with market and industry trends by reading journals, attending industry conferences, networking events, and building relationships with industry thought leaders and entrepreneurs
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing market trends, competitive landscapes, and investment opportunities
  • Conduct valuation analysis and assist with the development of the newco cap table and equity plan for future financings
  • Collaborate with the investment team to develop and execute company future financing strategies for companies, including financings, IPOs, BD partnerships, and/or mergers and acquisitions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, industry experts, and other stakeholders in the startup ecosystem and across RA Capital Management and RA Ventures.
  • Network with other VC firms and strategic partners to identify co-investment opportunities and syndication possibilities


  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA strongly preferred.  Master’s in Public Health a strong plus.
  • 5+ years industry experience
  • Prior experience in strategy / management consulting in the healthcare services industry
  • Broad operational role in a healthcare services company a strong plus
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills including the ability to create a pro forma
  • Knowledge of the payer systems, including the US reimbursement system and coding
  • Knowledge of the healthcare services landscape, emerging technologies, and market trends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; compelling storytelling ability.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of autonomy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking skills, ability to identify what’s most important, and ability to operate under uncertainty
