About RAVen

RAVen (RA Ventures) is the venture-focused arm of RA Capital Management, LP, a Boston-based biotechnology and life sciences investment firm.

Job Description

Synolo Therapeutics, an early-stage biotechnology company launched by RA Capital, is pioneering the development of precision-targeted immunotherapies for cancer. Powered by computational protein design and proprietary technologies which yield biological data sets at unprecedented scale and resolution, we are building a pipeline of first-in-class multi-specific biologics with novel functionalities. Synolo was founded by pioneers in the field of protein design and engineering, synthetic biology, DNA sequencing, immunology, and biologics drug discovery and development.

About RA Capital:

RA Capital Management funds and builds healthcare and life science companies using an evidence-based investment approach informed by TechAtlas, a think tank within RA Capital which analyzes scientific and clinical data from academic literature and industry sources to anticipate how breakthroughs might impact industry stakeholders, physicians, patients, and policymakers. TechAtlas' analyses are captured in a unique collection of competitive landscapes, or ‘maps’, that identify competitive therapeutics, diagnostics, research tools, and/or technological capabilities in a given area.

About the Role:

Synolo Therapeutics is seeking an innovative, self-motivated, and team-oriented Associate Scientist in Protein Science, with a passion for discovering and developing novel medicines and who thrives working in a fast-paced startup team. In this role, you will contribute to the cloning, expression, purification and biophysical characterization of antibody drug leads and other protein-based reagents. In addition, you will be a key contributor to our drug discovery and development programs by applying your expertise in protein biochemistry in support of our cross-functional team’s efforts. As a member of a rapidly growing and very creative team, you will help us in our mission to develop novel therapeutics to improve patients’ lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Key contributor to the maintenance and growth of in-house capabilities of protein expression in mammalian cells (eg. CHO) and of protein purification to support research activities, project goals and platform development.
  • Design and carry out experiments to express and purify multi-specific biologics
  • Characterize the purified leads biochemically and biophysically
  • Study protein solubility and stability with various biophysical techniques
  • Analyze and communicate experimental results verbally and in writing
  • Mentor junior team members

Qualifications & Skills:

  • BS/BA or MS/MA in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. Minimum requirement for Associate Scientist: MS + 3 years industry experience, BA/BS + 5 years industry experience. Level commensurate with experience

  • Hands-on experience in protein purification and characterization using FPLC and HPLC systems and familiarity with several types of chromatography (Protein A/G affinity, IMAP, ion exchange, SEC, HIC)
  • Hands-on experience with current molecular biology and cell biology techniques, including molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture and transfection, Western blot, SDS-PAGE, ELISA etc
  • Hands-on experience in determining binding kinetics and affinity between antigen and antibody (SPR, BLI, or monolith)
  • Hands-on experience in characterization of antibody, such as DSF, DLS, and/or sec-MALS
  • Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to multitask, with good follow through on action items
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams
